Diner en Blanc

Diner en Blanc is fun, dramatic and a little formal. You go to these special events long enough and they're all the same, in different ways. Diner en Blanc is very photogenic, everyone is smiling drinking, having fun. Whats not to like? If you live outside the city, I'd say nothing.
But it is a kind of a pain in the ass. Setting up, tearing down.
One thing I really wish is that the planning committee would get someone urban, in touch with the pulse of the city in on planning the location. The next morning social media was exploding, and I can't really fault any of the complaints. Diner en Blanc was held on Woodburn Ave. in East walnut Hills, a heavy residential street. Most of the outrage was around not knowing it was going to happen. I can't imagine coming home from work tired and finding out you couldn't get to your street. Residents were struggling to get in and out of their apartments all evening while stepping around participants belongs stacked all over the place.
It had to be shocking and upsetting. A couple years ago when people were hand wringing over gentrification in OTR the event was held in Washington Park, seemingly to rub everyone's nose in it.
The locations are a touch insensitive to locals.
But hey, at least it was photogenic.
